The Blue Lagoon in Iceland has welcomed the completion of a significant expansion, with the highly anticipated opening of its first luxury offering, the Retreat at Blue Lagoon.
Debuting on a private inlet of the UNESCO Global Geopark and featuring the subterranean Retreat Spa, geothermal Retreat Lagoon, 62-suite Retreat Hotel, and Moss Restaurant, the Retreat is a place where guests can leave the world behind and enter a timeless realm of relaxation, rejuvenation, and exploration.
A long-time vision achieved, the retreat is being brought to life by those who originally developed the Blue Lagoon.
“We’re proud to finally be able to share the Retreat at Blue Lagoon Iceland with the world,” said Grímur Sæmundsen, founder of Blue Lagoon.
“Our team and partners have worked extremely hard to bring this luxury experience to life and we are all beyond excited to welcome guests to our new property.”
The Retreat, set in the centuries-old lava and surrounded by the Blue Lagoon’s revitalising waters, offers guests an experience like no other in Iceland.
Each of the 62 suites feature a minimalist aesthetic designed to bring the dramatic terrain of Iceland in-room with floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as human centric lighting set to mimic the phases of the sun.
Arranged on two levels, the suites on the lower level feature private terraces, providing views of the lava and the surrounding lagoon, with some offering guests direct access to the lagoon.
At the Retreat, guests are welcomed by their individual hosts.
For the duration of the guests’ stay, the host serves as a guide and attendant - instilling a sense of belonging.
Whether managing itineraries, confirming tour bookings, providing insight to local culture, or informing guests of the imminent arrival of the Northern Lights, Retreat hosts provide personalised service, creating the optimal conditions for unparalleled relaxation.
Built into an 800-year-old lava flow on the south shore of the Blue Lagoon, the Retreat Spa transports the mind and body to new dimensions of peace and rejuvenation through nature, design, and the radiant powers of geothermal seawater.
In addition to unlimited access to the entire Blue Lagoon facility, guests of the Retreat are invited to enjoy yoga each morning.
The Retreat also provides guided hikes, allowing guests to explore the striking geological features of Blue Lagoon’s volcanic surroundings.
