President James Michel has extended his deepest sympathies to the family and the people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, following the passing away of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi earlier this week.

In a letter sent to Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, the President extended the condolences and solidarity of the Seychellois people and of the government during this time of national grief.

“Prime Minister Zenawi was a man of principles and integrity, a courageous leader who leaves behind a lasting legacy for Ethiopia and Africa as a whole,” President Michel said, “His dedication to his country and to the continent was admirable, and he will be deeply mourned by all who knew him.”
