Lydd Airport enquiry gets underway

A public inquiry into plans to build a new terminal building and extend the runway at a Kent airport has begun.

Campaigners are concerned that the expansion of Lydd airport could bring noise pollution and damage wildlife in the area. Protests are being held.

Meanwhile business leaders back the plans, which they claim will bring employment to the area.

The inquiry is expected to last 13 weeks. The £25m expansion plan was approved by Shepway District Council in March 2010.
