Interest in Azerbaijan up by a whopping 4,662% following their Eurovision success

For those cynics who refuse to take the Eurovision Song Contest seriously, there’s no denying the dramatic effect it can have on the winning nation. Like the song or not, interest in Azerbaijan spiked by over 4,000% on TripAdvisor* following their win on Saturday night.

Azerbaijan’s victory means they will host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in their capital city, Baku. “Whether this phenomenal surge in interest is down to Brits researching a hotel for next year’s contest, or simply because we now want to know exactly where Azerbaijan is, we can’t be sure. But one thing’s certain – Eurovision has really helped put Azerbaijan on the map.”
It is the first time that Azerbaijan has won the contest in its 56-year history, having only joined Eurovision in 2008.
