Insanity plea clears JetBlue pilot following midair outburst

Insanity plea clears JetBlue pilot following midair outburst

JetBlue pilot Clayton Osbon was suffering from the effects of a “severe mental disease or defect” when he began screaming about a bomb onboard his aircraft.

As such, he cannot be found guilty of any criminal charges relating to the incident a court in the United States has ruled.

Osbon had to be restrained by passengers earlier this year after he was locked out of the cockpit of JetBlue flight 191 by his co-pilot.

However, a judge in Amarillo, Texas, overturned a previous ruling declaring him sane.

Osbon will now be re-evaluated before a hearing on August 6th to decide whether he can be released.

He was charged with interfering with crew on a New York-Las Vegas flight and remains on “inactive” duty with JetBlue.
