Gatwick prepares for busy August bank holiday weekend

With the end of school summer holidays soon approaching, Gatwick is preparing for a busy August bank holiday weekend.

More than half a million passengers will be flying through Gatwick between Thursday (26 August) and Monday (30 August) with Friday being the busiest day with approximately 123,000 passengers.

Stewart Wingate, CEO, Gatwick said, “This year we have delivered excellent levels of customer service particularly in security, as passengers clear our security areas in less than five minutes over 95% of the time - we are committed to ensure this continues this weekend.”

The summer sunspots are proving the most popular with Gatwick passengers this bank holiday weekend with travellers flying away to guaranteed sunshine. Dalaman in Turkey, Malaga in Spain, Faro in Portugal, Palma de Mallorca in the Balearics and Alicante in Spain are the top five destinations. Dublin, at number six, is the most popular city-break destination with Corfu at number seven. Orlando, number eight is the favourite long-haul holiday spot. Sharm El Sheikh (number nine) and Ibiza (10) complete the top ten.
