Algarve offers royal couple honeymoon pick

Prince William and his fiancée Kate Middleton will have the choice of spending their honeymoon in Portugal’s most attractive tourist destination - the Algarve.

An invitation issued by Turismo do Algarve, the tourist board for the region, has already been sent to the British Ambassador to Portugal, who will be forwarding the offer to the Royal couple.

Nuno Aires, president of Turismo do Algarve, explained: “This honours the close relationship between the UK and Portugal, as well as the established British tradition of holidaying or living in our region.”

Albufeira is popular with visitors to the Algarve

In the document delivered to Alex Ellis, the British Ambassador, Nuno Aires congratulated the British royal family on the wedding announcement and expressed his “joy and happiness” to William and Kate, who will be marrying on April 29th 2011 in Westminster Abbey, London.

British tourists have always accounted for the highest number of overnight stays in hotels in the Algarve and represent more than half of all international arrivals at Faro airport.
