W Hotels to expand presence in Mexico

Accelerating growth in Latin America, W Hotels Worldwide has announced plans to open the second W Hotel in Mexico City and the fifth W Retreat Worldwide in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

W Santa Fe will be located within the bustling Santa Fe business district overlooking one of the area’s most stunning evergreen valleys, with spectacular views of the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes. Slated to open in 2014, W Santa Fe will be part of a new build, mixed-use development called Liberty Plaza.

A dramatic staircase will be a sculptural centrepiece of W Santa Fe’s multi-story Living Room (W’s take on the traditional hotel lobby) and the hotel will feature 132 stylish guestrooms with spectacular city views; several destination bar and restaurant options, including W’s signature Living Room bar and café; WET pool deck with outdoor bar; 372m² Away Spa, with nine treatment rooms; SWEAT®, state-of-the-art fitness facility and 725m² of meeting and event space, including a 279m² Great Room.

W Retreat & Spa Kanai - Riviera Maya will be located within an exclusive beachfront community surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mayan Rivera’s lush lagoons and pristine mangroves. Nestled on the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the 180-room Retreat will be the centrepiece of the Kanai Resort, which will include four hotels and a Beach Club.

Slated to open in 2014, W Kanai will appear to float on a carpet of mangroves. Buildings and landscape will flow into one another, as gardens and courtyards, pools and waterworks intersect with terraces and footpaths, seamlessly connecting the Retreat’s indoor and outdoor spaces. Guestrooms will have unobstructed views of the sea. Guests will be able to choose from the Retreat’s varied programme of water sports, and wellbeing activities, including W’s signature Away Spa, boasting more than 975m² of indoor and outdoor treatment space.  The resort will also feature 697m² of event space, including a 279m² Great Room.
