Taj Cape Town opens its doors to the world

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces announces the opening of Taj Cape Town. This new luxury hotel in the historic city of Cape Town is a joint venture between Indian Hotels Company Ltd and city centre developers Euro cape, with the investment in the project topping R500 million.

Mr Raymond Bickson, MD & CEO, Indian Hotels Company Ltd said “We are delighted to announce our foray into South Africa with Taj Cape Town. Cape Town is an increasingly popular tourist and business destination and this is yet another step towards establishing a significant presence for Brand Taj across the globe with its exemplary product-service combination”.

Taj Cape Town is in the middle of historic precinct that links S’t George’s Mall, the Company Gardens, the Slave Lodge and the House of Parliament. It is an area steeped in history and alive with art, culture, cuisine and entertainment in the city. The national and provincial parliaments, High Court and headquarters of many Cape-based businesses are situated near the hotel. The original South African Reserve Bank and the Board of Executors buildings in the heart of the city have been meticulously restored.17 new stories with walk out balconies and panoramic views over the city have been added to them, and the property now has a room inventory of 177 rooms.

Taj Cape Town offers 11 different room types, designed for the luxury traveller These include Heritage Rooms in the restored historic buildings, Tower Rooms in the new section of the hotel with mountain and city views and a two-bedroom, two-level Presidential Suite with its own massage and steam rooms, fully equipped kitchen, office, gym and a top floor deck large enough for outdoor entertaining. A Taj Club floor, a feature of all Taj hotels, includes a private lounge served by a dedicated butler team, providing breakfast and evening canapés and cocktails.

Conference, meeting and banqueting facilities include seven meeting rooms, the largest of which can accommodate 110 people. The original interiors of the historical buildings have been complemented by state-of-the-art technology.

The furnishings combine contemporary luxe with modern amenities. Comfortable, classic furniture doesn’t preclude high-speed internet and a wireless multi-media hub allowing laptops to be interfaced with the television.

Bombay Brasserie, which will take forward the legacy of being one of the top Indian restaurants in the UK, brings to South Africa the best Indian chefs and authentic Indian fine dining.
