Qype, Europe’s largest consumer reviews site, has struck a deal with internet giant Microsoft to bring Qype‘s app to the new generation of Windows 7 smartphones.

One of the fastest-growing mobile experiences on the web, Qype gives consumers access to over 1.9 million reviews across 166,000 cities worldwide, covering everything from bars and beauticians to plumbers and primary schools. With over 1 million downloads to date, it is already one of the most popular smartphone apps on the market.

Using Windows‘ geo-location features, the Qype app will find the best places around you across almost 1,000 different categories and gives immediate access to Qype vouchers, which can be redeemed instantly.

Free to download, the app also makes it easy to write reviews or comments on-the-go, upload pictures or check-in to a place. Check-ins can be also be published via Twitter and Facebook.

Exclusive to Windows 7, users will be able to track their friend’s check-ins on a location map, filter searches even further, and view important information and tips on the Windows Panaroma Screen.

The apps’ big advantage is personalised recommendations; “Someone who has a passion for certain types of bars in London for example, can receive recommendations for similar places in Paris, Hamburg or Buenos Aires” says Qype CEO Ian Brotherston.

“Qype has become an essential app for today’s smartphone user, and we’re delighted to be working with Microsoft to bring it to Windows 7 phones. A quarter of our reviews are posted via a mobile device and I’m looking forward to seeing that number grow through this partnership.” continues Brotherston.

“More and more smartphone users are accessing the web for local recommendations and Qype is leading the charge in this area. With the innovative local services of the Windows Phone our customers will now be able to access this information whenever and wherever they want to.” says Frank Fischer, Director Mobile Communications, Microsoft Germany.

The concept, design and development of the Qype Windows 7 app were undertaken by international mobile marketing business iconmobile.
