MindTree enhances SITA’s flight planning system

MindTree Limited, a global IT and Product Engineering Services Company, has announced that it has successfully completed a flight planning system migration for SITA, the world’s leading specialist in air transport communications and IT solutions.

A joint team from SITA and MindTree transferred SITA’s flight planning system from a mainframe IBM CICS, PL/1, FORTRAN, Assembler and VSAM-based environment to a SUN Solaris platform.

This not only significantly reduced SITA’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through reduction in maintenance, hardware and licensing costs, but also improved the performance, availability and accuracy of the flight planning solution.

“SITA is extremely pleased with the outcome of this project,” said Toby Tucker, director of flight operations, SITA.

“More than 170 airlines around the globe use this system to create 12,000 flight plans each day, and the collaboration between MindTree and SITA has resulted in a highly customized and stable turnkey platform that improves the performance, accuracy and availability of the system. This was accomplished in a seamless fashion as we continued to deliver a consistent quality of service to SITA’s customers during the project.”

“MindTree is proud to have been chosen for this project and to deepen its relationship with SITA,” said Siva Vajjhala, vice president and head of MindTree’s Travel & Transportation industry group.

“We have delivered a tailor-made solution that meets SITA’s needs and expectations, both from a business and technology point of view. The final solution is testimony to the very high degree of collaboration achieved between SITA and MindTree.”
