Gatwick Express train catches fire at London Victoria

A fire in the undercarriage of a Gatwick Express train at London Victoria earlier saw the evacuation of one of the busiest stations in the capital during the morning rush hour.

While Victoria is has now reopened following the incident, platforms 12-14 remain closed.

Services to and from Victoria are subject to severe disruption, and may be delayed, diverted or cancelled at short notice, Gatwick Express said in a statement.

Passengers are being told they should expect delays of up to 50 minutes.

There are no reported injuries following the incident, which was described as a “small fire”.

The train is believed to have been empty at the time of the fire.
