Evergreen Lodge at Yosemite Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary

Evergreen Lodge introduces its Evergreen’s 90th Anniversary Celebration Package, a two-night getaway including cabin accommodations, meals, a full-day guided recreation activity, massages and anniversary mementos. The package is valid through Dec. 15, 2011; rates vary by season, ranging from $440 to $550 per night.

For those who prefer to customize their own itinerary, the lodge offers the Evergreen Plan upgrade to any room reservation at a special 90th anniversary rate of $90 per person. The upgrade includes a gourmet three-course dinner and a choice of one of Evergreen’s historically themed recreation trips. The Evergreen Plan provides a savings of up to 30 percent over reserving dinner and recreation separately.

The lodge’s restaurant and historic tavern provide culinary choices that range from hearty to gourmet, suitable for those returning from a hard day of adventures or those enjoying a relaxing getaway. Executive Chef Kate Chadwick, who joined the lodge this year, has put her stamp on the menu. To honor the lodge’s 1921 establishment, she has created a special set of $19.21 entrees, each of which is an updated version of a classic 1920’s dish, including Kobe beef meatloaf, chicken pot pie, turkey Tetrazzini and braised pork loin. The lodge’s classic all-wood tavern serves light fare and drinks in a convivial atmosphere. This year, it will serve commemorative cocktails harkening back to the 1920s, including “The Bootlegger” and “The Roaring Twenties Old Fashioned.” Throughout the summer, Evergreen Lodge offers a 90th anniversary old-time outdoor barbecue several nights a week, with options ranging from A&W pulled pork sandwiches and barbecued free-range chicken to homemade vegetarian chili and grilled eggplant burgers.

Evergreen Lodge is ideally situated as a base camp for Yosemite adventures, including trips to the park’s less visited Hetch Hetchy and Tuolumne Meadows High Country areas. The lodge has the most comprehensive guided recreation program in the Yosemite area, giving guests a rare opportunity to experience Yosemite’s famous attractions as well as its hidden gems with a knowledgeable guide. Half-day and full-day trips are designed for all ability levels. Many offerings are seasonal to take advantage of the best timing for viewing waterfalls, wildflowers or fall foliage. Throughout 2011, the lodge has added a new series of historically themed guided recreation trips and activities to honor the history of Yosemite.
