easyJet launches inaugural flight to Sweden

easyJet, the UK’s largest and best value airline, has launched its first ever flight to Sweden from the UK.

The new easyJet route from London Gatwick to Gothenburg will provide a daily route,

Paul Simmons, easyJet’s UK general manager, comments: “Launching our first UK route to Sweden demonstrates easyJet’s commitment to providing even more choice for our passengers. It’s always exciting for us to add a new country to the long list of places we fly to.”

easyJet celebrated the launch with a live and exclusive gig at Gatwick airport with Abba tribute band, Abalicious.  The Anni-Frid, Bjorn, Benny and Agnetha look-a-likes performed the Swedish group’s most popular hits for passengers boarding the inaugural flight from Gatwick to Gothenburg.

Mr Simmons continues: “We think Gothenburg is going to be a great addition to our network for both business and leisure passengers alike. And by flying easyJet, travellers will be able to enjoy fantastic service and low fares to convenient airports.

“Gothenburg brings our total number of routes out of Gatwick to 81 and we have even more new destinations to announce soon.”

Gothenburg boasts a plethora of attractions and sights including museums, an ancient old town filled with cafes and boutique shops, and one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful amusement parks, Liseberg. It’s an up and coming weekend city break destination offering culture, great hotels and lively nightlife, and is quickly gaining an international reputation as a gastronomic hub with local specialities including Atlantic fish and shellfish. And its’ stunning archipelago, easily accessible from the city, makes it the ideal choice for those seeking a city/coast destination.

easyJet currently operates routes from Milan and Geneva to Sweden’s capital Stockholm, but, this will be the first Swedish route from the UK.

With a choice of 81 destinations and operating a fleet of 42 aircraft out of Gatwick, easyJet is the largest airline operating out of the south London airport and will fly, on average, 40,000 passengers out of the airport each day during the peak season.
