Summer Sizzles at Choice Hotels

The summer of `03 was a sizzler in more ways than one for franchisees of Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH), as revenues generated via the company`s 800.4CHOICE toll-free number and its web site, ChoiceHotels.com, measured increases over previous year totals.

Overall revenue from the Choice Hotels` central reservation system (CRS) was up 3.1 percent in June 2003 versus June 2002, and up 2.4 percent in July 2003 versus July 2002. The company`s central reservations system enjoyed nine days with more than $6 million in business generated, including one day - June 23 - when revenue hit $6,577,080, the highest revenue-generating day since the summer of 2000.

ChoiceHotels.com, the company`s proprietary web site, continues to grow as a revenue generator for the company and its franchisees, with a 48.6 percent increase in revenues in June 2003 over June 2002 and a 48.2 percent increase in July 2003 over July 2002.

“By any measurement, business delivered to our hotels via our call centers and web site was up this summer,” said Wayne Wielgus, senior vice president, marketing for Choice Hotels. “This pickup in travel over the last two months gives us optimism coming into the fall travel season, particularly with the introduction of our blockbuster fall promotion - `Stay Twice and Get a Free Night.`”

The fall promotion follows Choice Hotels` summer “Gas, Food, Lodging” promotion at its midscale brands, offering guests at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion and MainStay Suites brand hotels a coupon for a free McDonald`s meal and a chance to win a brand new Jeep Liberty, a year`s supply of free fuel and other related prizes. More than one million travelers have entered the “Gas, Food, Lodging” sweepstakes to date.

Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn brand hotels joined Lowe`s Home Improvement Warehouse in offering travelers a chance to win $50,000 in cash or “instant win” $25 gift cards redeemable at Lowe`s.
