Makalali Game Lodge Joins Three Cities Group


The Three Cities Group has taken over the management and marketing of Makalali Game Lodge, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).


The lodge will form part of the group`s game lodge collection, which now comprises 12 lodges, and 530 beds situated in strategic tourism locations throughout southern Africa.


Three Cities will oversee a substantial refurbishment of the lodge in the following few months. Plans will soon be put into action to enhance the present excellent game viewing and hospitality experience. In addition, Makalali will also offer African community productions in a new unique surrounding on the property.


“The lodge will be relaunched to the travel trade as a luxury five-star game lodge experience as soon as the refurbishment programme has been completed,” commented Three Cities managing director Alan Vels.


“We are very excited about relaunching this unique African product into the Three Cities portfolio and enhancing its value through very personalised service, luxurious accommodation, world class cuisine and exceptional game viewing,” he added.

Geoffrey Qhena, vice present professional services for the IDC also expressed his commitment to the venture: “The IDC looks forward to working with the Three Cities Group in relaunching Makalali to new unprecedented heights”.


Makalali Private Game Reserve is located in the north eastern lowveld to the west of the Kruger National Park. The lodge comprises four 12-bed camps each with its own swimming pool, boma, lounge and diningroom area. The six spacious chalets in each camp are built among Jackelberry trees and contain a large bedroom, ensuite bathroom and a day room or sala.
