Hyatt Regency Istanbul is now offering Wireless Broadband Internet Access (WLAN) throughout the hotel, including the pool area and all guestrooms. Hyatt Regency Istanbul is the only 5 star hotel in Turkey providing full wireless access.

“At Hyatt Regency Istanbul, we always think through the special needs of our guests who are mostly traveling on business. The Internet connection for a traveling businessmen who is not a member of a global service provider is often both complicated and costly.” said area vice president of Hyatt International, Jacques L. Morand. “To meet with the requests of the Individual Business Travelers and to reflect 21st Century technology, we have joined forces with Garanti Teknoloji to establish a Wireless Local Area Network within the hotel”, he stated.

The wireless network allows guests to go online without an Ethernet cable and stay connected even when walking around the hotel. The IEEE 802.11b technology used in the Wireless Network is an open system providing connection for all the guests with an 802.11 card. Guests with appropriate laptops can easily use the system no matter the brand is. The service is provided at $15 for a 24-hour time period and can be paid by a credit card.

The 802.11b technology provides faster connection than a normal connection speed. The existing system in the hotel supports an 11Mb/s speed and will be upgraded to 802.11a, which is the recently launched version, supporting 54Mb/s speed.

To provide wireless network access for hotel guests, Hyatt Regency Istanbul chose Garanti Teknoloji, a subsidiary of Dogus Holding - Hyatt Regency Istanbul`s owning company. When the guest plugs in the Ethernet card, the connection is provided from the headquarters of Garanti Teknoloji, where a direct connection to 12 international and national service providers is available. Garanti Teknoloji also provides “firewall” and “intrusion detection” systems, which determine and eliminate all possible virus attacks, right at the connection stage.

The Hyatt Regency Istanbul WLAN Project is not only a wireless network but also an “access network package” providing a 512 Kbs connection speed and identification of WLAN users.
