Marriott Leads in High-Speed Internet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - July 9, 2002 - Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) leads the hotel industry in offering guests high-speed internet access, with more than 105,000 guest rooms in 370 hotels installed. High-speed access use has nearly doubled at Marriott’s hotels over the past six months. This year, more than 20,000 rooms in 75 additional hotels will be installed across the Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard and Residence Inn brands. Marriott began installing its hotels with STSN high-speed internet access in 1999.

Marriott’s distribution of high-speed internet access is widespread. For example, in New York Marriott has seven hotels and more than 4,000 rooms installed; in Atlanta, 27 hotels and more than 8,000 rooms; in San Francisco, 14 hotels and 5,400 rooms; and in Dallas, 16 hotels and 2,900 rooms.

Marriott offers high-speed access up to 50 times faster than conventional dial-up access via its preferred provider STSN. Guests can also access the Internet and use the phone at the same time. The system works with any internet-compatible laptop or PC (it does not require any special accessories). For 24-hour access, there is a $9.95 charge at most locations. Marriott guests are also offered a 24-hour, toll-free help line to answer questions and provide assistance for STSN users.
