SAA Magazine Wins Third Award

09 April, 2003, JOHANNESBURG: South African Airways’ onboard magazine Sawubona has done it again!
For the third consecutive year, Sawubona has once again won the award for Best In-flight Magazine 2002 at the Advantage AdMag ceremony held at the Inanda Club, this week.
The panels of judges said Sawubona was showing continuous improvement and praised the editor who they said was in touch with the market.
“We are glad that our magazine is going from strength to strength and can compete squarely with other onboard magazines offered by airlines around the world. The response from our passengers has been overwhelming, which is an indication that it is a good read as they are always clamouring for more, says Andre Viljoen, SAA President and CEO.
Sawubona is produced by Mafube Publishing on behalf of SAA. Last year, the magazine walked away with the award for ‘Most Improved Publication.
“We are delighted with this award. Sawubona aims to be an entertaining, informative and a positive showcase for South Africa, particularly in the areas of travel, tourism and culture,” says Bridget Hilton-Barber, editor of the magazine.
The selection criteria was: editorial content, focus, visual appeal, circulation and the magazine’s overall success.
Sawubona has a circulation of 96 000 copies per month on all local and international SAA flights with over 700 000 passengers a month who make use of South African Airways. The magazine concentrates on the very best that South Africa has to offer including travel, tourism, interviews, airline news, monthly events diaries - and just about anything positively South African.
The AdMag Awards are the brainchild of Primemedia’s Advantage magazine and are now in their eighth year. The awards are in recognition of ‘Best Practice’ in consumer publishing every year. Led by Advantage editor John Farquhar, the judges consist of prominent media and marketing personalities.
