Delta`s SkyWish Program: Share Our Strength

Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) has named Share Our Strength as the SkyWish Charity of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2002. Through SkyWish, Delta`s charitable mileage donation program, SkyMiles members now can donate miles to Share Our Strength that will be used to help distribute food, provide medical visits and educate low-income people on nutrition basics.

“Delta is proud to assist Share Our Strength in its worthwhile fight to end hunger and poverty worldwide,” said Rob Borden, Delta’s general manager of SkyMiles Customer Loyalty Programs. “We hope SkyMiles members recognize the importance of this organization and help us contribute to its noble efforts.”

Founded in 1984, Share Our Strength fights hunger on local, national and international levels by awarding grants to effective nonprofit organizations and by offering nutrition education training. To support these efforts, Share Our Strength raises funds in innovative ways - from mobilizing volunteer-led special events across the country, to developing cause-related marketing ventures, to securing corporate partnerships. Since its founding, Share Our Strength has distributed more than $64 million to more than 1,000 anti-hunger, anti-poverty programs worldwide.
“We’re excited about partnering with Delta on this win-win effort to fight hunger,” said Bill Shore, executive director of Share Our Strength. “We applaud Delta for recognizing hunger as an important issue and for making a real difference as we raise awareness and funds for anti-hunger efforts at home and abroad.”

Mileage donations can be made via e-mail at [email protected], by calling 1-800-325-3999 or via FAX at 404-773-1945. SkyMiles members should include their SkyMiles account number, the amount of miles to be donated and note that Share Our Strength is the charity that their miles will benefit. There is a 5,000-mile minimum donation, and Delta will boost each donation by adding 1,000 miles for every 5,000 miles contributed. SkyWish donations are not tax deductible for Delta Air Lines or SkyMiles members.

In 2001, Share Our Strength supported organizations that distributed more than 806 million pounds of food to agencies providing meals to low-income men, women and children; that provided almost 7 million nutritious meals to low-income children; that taught more than 18,900 low-income people necessary life skills; that graduated 3,074 low-income unemployed men and women from job training classes; and that provided more than 59,372 medical visits to low-income and homeless children across America.
