Southwest Airlines Reports February Traffic

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV)
announced today that the Company flew 3.3 billion revenue passenger miles
(RPMs) in February 2001, a 8.5 percent increase from the 3.0 billion RPMs
flown in February 2000.  Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 9.0 percent to
4.9 billion from the February 2000 level of 4.5 billion.  The load factor for
the month was 66.9 percent, compared to 67.2 percent for the same period last
year.

For the first two months of 2001, Southwest flew 6.7 billion RPMs,
compared to the 5.9 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2000, an
increase of 13.8 percent.  Available seat miles increased 12.0 percent to
10.4 billion from the 2000 level of 9.3 billion.  The year-to-date load factor
was 64.6 percent, compared to 63.6 percent for the same period last year.
