Vanguard Airlines Reports March Traffic

Kansas City, MO—Vanguard Airlines, Inc. (NasdaqSC: VNGD) reported traffic for the month of March 2001 of 97.1 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs). Capacity was 131.0 million available seat miles (ASMs). March load factor was 74.1 percent, the highest ever for the airline in March.


Traffic increased 36 percent for the month from 71.6 million RPMs in March 2000. Capacity was nearly unchanged from 131.5 million ASMs in March 2000. Load factor increased 19.6 points from 54.5 percent in March 2000.


Mark Cestari, Vice President of Marketing Communications, said, “Our March numbers are the first reflection of the positive benefit of our transition to a Kansas City hub. We have seen a tremendous response to our new routes, and with the April addition of Las Vegas and San Francisco as well as the introduction of MD-80 aircraft to our fleet, we look forward to the spring and summer travel season.”


Year-to-date RPMs increased 16 percent to 238.8 million from 206.5 million in 2000. Year-to-date ASMs increased 15 percent to 398.5 million from 345.9 million in 2000. Year-to-date load factor increased 0.2 points to 59.9 percent from 59.7 percent in 2000.
