United Airlines Dedicates Flagpole in Memory of 9/11 Victims

DEARBORN, MI, Sept. 5, 2002 å- United Airlines (NYSE:UAL) announced today that it will dedicate a flagpole in memory of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States at its Detroit reservations facility.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 in front of the reservations office located at 17501 Michigan Ave. in suburban Dearborn.
The flagpole is the brainstorm of United employees in Dearborn who worked tirelessly to raise the money needed to go forward with the project to honor the people who lost their lives Sept. 11. Its installation was made possible through the cooperative efforts of a number of local companies.
The ceremony will consist of speeches by prominent individuals including Dearborn Mayor Michael Guido and United Airlines’ Beverly Barfield, regional manager of reservations sales, and music performed by outstanding young musicians from Dearborn High School.
The flagpole stands 35 feet above the ground, and the first flag to be raised on the pole next Wednesday formerly flew over the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
