America West Reports July Traffic


America West Airlines
(NYSE: AWA) today reported traffic statistics for the month of July.  Revenue
passenger miles (RPMs) for July 2002 were 1.9 billion, a decrease of
0.6 percent from July 2001. Capacity for July 2002 was a record 2.4 billion
available seat miles (ASMs), up 1.4 percent from July 2001.  The passenger
load factor for the month of July was 77.9 percent versus 79.4 in July 2001.
Year-to-date load factor was a record 73.9 percent, up 0.6 points from
2001.  Year-to-date revenue passenger miles were 11.3 billion, a 5.4 percent
decrease from 2001.  Available seat miles decreased 6.1 percent for the
current year to 15.3 billion.

“Our record year-to-date load factor, which has increased every month this
year, our strong revenue per available seat mile (RASM) performance relative
to the industry, and our record capacity in both June and July show a pattern
of strong customer support for our new fare structure,” said W. Douglas
Parker, chairman and chief executive officer.
