British Airways welcomes the Government`s decision to approve Terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow airport.

The airline said that the decision signalled confidence in the future of the British aviation industry.

Rod Eddington, British Airways’ Chief Executive said: “While welcoming the approval of Terminal Five and the improved quality of service it will provide for airline customers, we need to examine the conditions in the decision letter before commenting further.

“What is abundantly clear is that the Government has refused to be deflected by the short term problems of world aviation. It has recognised that this decision, which has been so long in coming, is vital to the economic prosperity of the nation, of London and of the local communities around Heathrow, as well as to airlines and their customers.”
