DENVER (June 3, 2002) - Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: FRNT) today announced that, effective immediately, it has implemented a new standby policy designed to ease restrictions for customers wishing to make last minute changes to the return portion of their travel itinerary. The airline`s new policy will allow a customer who has already flown the outbound portion of their itinerary to change the return portion and standby for travel one day before, or one day after, their originally scheduled day of flight. The airline will charge a standby fee of $100 for its new, relaxed standby program, which differs from the airline`s prior change policy that collected a $60 administrative fee and any applicable difference in fare between the original flight and the new flight. Additionally, the airline will waive the standby fee and fare adjustments for Frontier EarlyReturns Summit members who have already flown the outbound portion of their itinerary and wish to fly standby the day before, or day after, their originally scheduled day of departure. In conjunction with the new standby policy, the airline`s change fee of $60 increases to $100.
Vice President of Marketing and Planning Sean Menke explains, “Our customers, and in particular business travelers, have told us on numerous occasions that they desire more flexibility when their travel plans change. Without going into a complicated explanation of how airline seat inventory works, we believe our new standby policy will bring some simplicity to a complex transaction. Prior to our new policy, a businessperson leaving on Monday and returning on Friday could only alter her plans by paying what`s called a `change fee` and the difference in fare. Oftentimes, the combination of those two items would be well in excess of the original ticket price. Under the new policy, that same businessperson, who might finish her work on Thursday, now has the option of standing by for travel back to her original destination on Thursday or Saturday for a flat standby fee of $100.”
