Delta Air Lines Offers Customers Alternatives for Pet Travel

Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) today announced it will implement its annual embargo on the acceptance of pets as checked baggage from May 15 through Sept. 15. This applies to all destinations on Delta/s worldwide system. During the embargo period Delta customers will have two alternatives to transport their pets: shipping pets as cargo through the Pet FirstSM program or shipping pets as carry-on.

Through Delta/s Pet First program a service designed to address the special needs of warm-blooded animals shipped as cargo without their owner customers may take advantage of Delta/s special care and handling in each cargo facility shipping during morning and evening flights to allow for optimum comfort and temperature-controlled live animal holding areas in four hub cities / Atlanta Cincinnati Dallas and Salt Lake City. One simple rating structure for warm-blooded animal shipments makes it easy for customers to cost-effectively ship pets based on volume weight and destination. Customers also may pre-book their animals up to 13 days in advance and a minimum of one day prior to a desired flight. Pet First reservations can be made by calling 1-888-736-3738.

The types of pets allowed in the cabin include dogs cats birds ferrets rabbits hamsters and guinea pigs. Reptiles primates or pot-bellied pigs are not allowed. In addition pets must be small enough to fit comfortably in a kennel
(max. size 17/Quote/L x 12/Quote/W x 8/Quote/H) under the seat directly in front of the passenger pets must be at least eight weeks old and passengers may not carry on more than one pet.
