Effective May 18, Air Canada is expanding its convenient ‘ticketless travel’ service to include Frankfurt, offering customers the choice of electronic ticketing when travelling to and from this key European destination.

“Throughout 1999, we are moving ahead with our commitment to expand electronic ticketing on international routes,” said Marc Rosenberg, Vice President, Sales and Product Distribution. “Ticketless travel has proven successful on our North American and London routes and we are pleased to offer the service to more customers.”

Electronic ticketing provides a fast and convenient service which simplifies last minute travel. Instead of issuing paper tickets to customers, with electronic ticketing, travelers are provided with an itinerary/receipt which contains their file confirmation number. It can be faxed, mailed or issued in person and is used by the customer for security and customs-immigration purposes. The passenger presents the itinerary receipt as well as identification at the check-in counter or gate and receives a boarding pass. Moreover an electronic ticket cannot be stolen, lost or misplaced.

As a pioneer in this field, Air Canada first introduced electronic ticketing in 1995 and quickly expanded it to all routes across Canada as well as to several U.S. destinations. The airline has since extended electronic ticketing to virtually all of its North American network and expanded the service to flights between North America and London, Heathrow. Earlier this year, electronic ticketing was introduced on the Canada-Bermuda route. The airline is planning to introduce electronic ticketing to other U.K. and Caribbean destinations during the summer.

Air Canada is a leader in Canada-Germany services and offers customers the most non-stop flights between Canada and Frankfurt. Together with its Star Alliance partner, Lufthansa, Air Canada offers up to three times daily non-stop service between Toronto and Frankfurt, daily non-stop service between Vancouver-Frankfurt and Calgary-Frankfurt as well as daily, non-stop service between Montreal and Frankfurt.
