The largest tennis tournament in Latin America, the Brazil Open will take place in Costa do Sau’pe (Bahia) in September for the second consecutive time, gathering players from all over the world. The Brazil Open will have 32 players in the main draw, 25 of which will come from the ATP ranking, 4 from qualifying and 3 wildcards. The women’s draw will have 28 players, 21 of which from the WTA ranking, 4 from qualifying and 3 wildcards. There will also be the doubles tournaments, with 16 doubles in each draw.

American tennis player Venus Williams has confirmed her participation in the tournament. Brazilian tennis player Gustavo Kuerten is another expected presence for this competition that will award points for the ATP Champions Race. Last year the winners were Czech Jan Varcek for men’s singles and Monica Seles for women`s singles.

Costa do Sau’pe was once again chosen as the competition venue due to the good results obtained in 2001, when hotels and inns reached a 100 percent occupation rate. About 27,000 people were in the premises during competition days, including athletes and worldwide press members.
