Galileo International Continues To Expand Electronic Ticketing Services In Europe

Galileo International, Inc. (NYSE: GLC), a leading provider of electronic global distribution services (GDS) for the travel industry, announced today the continued expansion of its electronic ticketing offerings in Europe that places Galileo in industry leading positions within the United Kingdom and Germany.  This latest deployment of electronic ticketing results in 11 major carriers offering electronic ticketing in the United Kingdom and 14 in Germany.
The latest round of electronic ticketing deployment will allow Galileo customers in the United Kingdom and Germany to benefit from this service enhancement with American Airlines, Alitalia and US Airways.  Also in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, electronic ticketing is now offered with United Airlines.
“Electronic ticketing provides significant cost savings for our airline and travel agency customers alike.  In fact the International Air Transport Association has recently declared that the cost to airlines of one electronic ticket is US$1.00, compared to US$8.00 for a paper ticket,” said Steve Diffley, Galileo’s vice president, Airline Sales.  “It also further automates the process of travel reservations across the Internet by taking out the need for paper tickets to be printed and sent to the traveler.  This service enhancement benefits our customers in the e-commerce arena, and a number of additional airlines are in the process of implementing electronic ticketing with Galileo over the next few months.”
