transavia.com adds UK service

transavia.com has announced a new route from the UK, flying twice daily from London Luton to Rotterdam, in addition to starting operations in Denmark following the collapse of Sterling Airlines.

The launch of operations in Denmark follows the collapse of Sterling Airlines, the Danish low cost airline that transported 4.5million passengers a year before filing for bankruptcy on 29 October 2008.  As transavia.com’s core operations are seasonal in nature and heavily weighted to summer months, the airline was able to launch a Danish operation at short notice.

Willem Hondius, Chief Commercial Officer at transavia.com comments “The Danish market is attractive to transavia.com.  We see many opportunities on the charter market, as well as the Danish market for regularly scheduled flights, especially for routes that appeal to tourists”.
