One&Only plans for Cape Town debut

One&Only Resorts’ newest property, One&Only Cape Town, is scheduled to open during the latter half of 2009.Ground has broken for the 130-key resort, which will be set out over seven floors including residential apartments in an elegant, contemporary building on Cape Town’s popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, overlooking the marina and with panoramic views across to Table Mountain.

Fully serviced by the hotel and with private lifts, the residential apartments will be offered as an investment opportunity. They are ideally located on the top two floors of the building with iconic views of both Table Mountain and the ocean.

Forty of the resort’s spacious guest rooms will be set on an adjacent lush green landscaped island in the Waterfront itself. Each of the resort’s rooms and suites, with a minimum size of 60 square metres, will have either a private terrace or balcony. Two suites will offer their own ensuite spa treatment rooms to afford guests maximum privacy and relaxation.

The One&Only Cape Town will feature a state-of-the-art spa, one of the largest in the area and set on its own island, the second of the resort’s two islands, with nine treatment suites together with heat treatment areas, a vitality pool, ‘experience’ showers and a tranquil meditative relaxation zone. A comprehensive fitness concept incorporating a yoga, pilates and tai chi studio, as well as a fitness centre and swimming pool will be housed in the main hotel tower. The One&Only Spa is being developed jointly by One&Only Resorts and the Scandinavia-based international spa consultancy Raison d’Etre.

One&Only Cape Town will also have a KidsOnly clubhouse for younger guests of 11 and under, which will offer daily complimentary supervised activities including full and half day programmes. For guests with business in mind, there will be an extensive meeting and banqueting room measuring 263 square metres, able to host up to 200 people for cocktails, as well as a boardroom for up to 18 people.

Cape Town-based architects Dennis Fabian & Berman and Ruben Reddy have ensured the stylish resort will integrate with the Waterfront District whilst the interiors have been designed by internationally-acclaimed and specialist luxury hotel and restaurant designer Adam D. Tihany. The resort’s feel will be contemporary whilst drawing heavily on Africa’s culture and heritage. Tihany’s approach of imbuing each of his projects with a sense of the surrounding culture runs parallel to One&Only’s core philosophy of providing distinctive experiences. The integration of his bold, contemporary designs in landmark spaces is a perfect match for the One&Only Cape Town project. This is not Tihany’s first time working with One&Only Resorts; in 2004 he designed the elegant ‘C’ and Agua restaurants at the One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico.

On the dining front, innovative chef Nobu Matsuhisa will bring his signature Japanese inspired menu, with a few South African twists, to Nobu Cape Town - the first Nobu in South Africa and one of the most celebrated global restaurant brands. One&Only Cape Town will also offer a second restaurant with a Tapas-style experience and a third outdoor restaurant poolside for more casual dining.

Commenting on One&Only Cape Town, Sol Kerzner, Chairman and CEO of Kerzner International, said, “One&Only Cape Town is destined to become a significant landmark in South Africa and our plans promise to make it one of South Africa’s leading luxury resort destinations. We are looking forward to once again contributing to South Africa’s tourism industry, which has seen an incredible growth in recent years, with Cape Town remaining one of the world’s top destinations. In addition, I am personally delighted to be opening a spectacular resort in my home country and where I first became involved in the hotel industry.”
