Dominica begins recovery process post hurricane

The Nature Island of Dominica is recovering from the passage of Hurricane Dean which caused the death of two people and minimal damage to road infrastructure and agricultural crops.

Dominica started to feel the effects of Hurricane Dean late Thursday evening and the country continued to be affected by heavy rains and strong winds well into Friday evening.

Earlier today the all-clear was given by the Government of Dominica, an indication that the country is over the worst.

According to National Disaster Coordinator, Mr. Cecil Shillingford, several roads in Dominica are now being cleared by various teams as a result of the landslides caused by the heavy rains and strong winds.

Several villages across the country are still without water and electricity but the utility companies, DOMLEC and DOWASCO are working feverishly to restore water and power.
