Loews partners small change foundation

Loews Hotels has announced their corporate partnership with Modest Needs Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding hard-working individuals and families who find themselves faced with unexpected emergency expenses that have the potential to be catastrophic. The national partnership with Modest Needs Foundation signals Loews Hotels’ renewed commitment to its Good Neighbor policy, which was the first of its kind in the travel industry when it was launched in 1990. The Loews Hotels Good Neighbor Policy set the standard for corporate philanthropy when it was introduced 17 years ago, receiving many accolades over the years including the President’s Service Award, the highest honor given by the President of the United States for community service directed at solving critical social problems.

Throughout the year, Loews Hotels will embark on a variety of local and national activities to bring awareness to and raise funds for the Modest Needs Foundation, including a May fundraising event at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego, CA. In addition, special “funded by Loews” icons will appear at www.modestneeds.org to denote when a Loews Hotel has made a contribution that has funded one of Modest Needs’ applicants.

“‘Small change—a world of difference’ is Modest Needs’ slogan, and it succinctly describes how, for so many people, covering an unexpected expense can prevent them from entering the cycle of poverty,” said Jonathan Tisch, chairman and chief executive officer of Loews Hotels and former Vice Chairman of the Welfare to Work Partnership. “Modest Needs is an inspirational and extremely innovative organization that via the Internet will enable Loews Hotels to directly make a difference in the neighborhoods where we operate hotels, speaking to the heart of our commitment to being responsible to the communities where we do business.”

Founded in 2002 by Dr. Keith P. Taylor as a “living tribute to human kindness,” Modest Needs is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose programs are funded entirely through the “small change” of individual donors. Donations to Modest Needs generally average between $5.00 - $100.00, while Modest Needs’ maximum grant is $1,000.00. Rather than disburse their grants cash to individuals, Modest Needs makes its grants by remitting payment directly to a creditor on a successful applicant’s behalf.
