Abu Dhabi talks impressive presence at ITB

Pursuing a comprehensive strategy to boost the tourism sector as a key segment of the economy, Abu Dhabi will make on 7-11 March 2007 a usual strong presence at ITB Berlin, a prime marketplace that’s regarded as a driving force behind the world’s tourism industry. HE Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), said that promoting Abu Dhabi on world tourist markets and making its presence strongly felt on the world tourist map have always been among the prime targets sought by the ADTA.

‘According to the plan adopted by the ADTA for the coming years, the tourist sector’s share in the Emirate’s gross domestic product is expected to hit new highs in continuation of the government’s attempts to diversify national income resources and boost economic growth,” he added.

Giving teeth to such an ambitious strategy entails continued expansions of tourist development and infrastructure projects and offering new, distinguished services for our clientele, said the ADTA chairman.

He added that work is underway to finalize a number of such projects whose implementation would, inter alia, add to the emirate’s considerable tourist potential and enhance tourist attractions in the whole region at large.

‘Last year marked a virtual take-off for the tourist sector in Abu Dhabi in many respects, with the Emirate having doubled growth rates in a way that tallies with its regional and global importance,’ he added, referring to confirmed figures showing that to the tune of 1.345,000 tourists visited the emirate last year and spent more than 309 tourist nights, a 12% increase on the year 2005.

The ITB, running over a space of 150,000 sq. metre, woes more than 10,800 exhibitors from 180 countries, including tour leaders and operators, tourist promotion agencies, hoteliers, car rentals, and many other tourist organs. This year’s edition of the grand event is expected to attract more visitors comparatively with the past year’s which was by attended by 162,000 visitors, 60% of whom were business visitors.

The Emirate will participate in the event with an impressive 262 sq metre pavilion consisting of 5 main stands allocated to major tourist companies and agencies in the UAE capital: Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Abu Dhabi National Hotels, Addar Properties, Danat Resorts & Hotels, Emirates Palace and Al Ittihad Airways, in addition to 22 more stands for key tourist players in the city or their associates, including Abu Dhabi Travel Bureau, Abu Dhabi Sheraton Hotels, Net Tourism, Crown Plaza hotel, Desert Adventures Tourism, Shangri-La hotel, etc. The stall also showcases a giant model for the Abu Dhabi International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

ITB Berlin is a prime meeting place, a marketplace, and a driving force behind the entire industry. The exhibition area and various segments, along with the comprehensive congress programme and supporting events represent the entire product spectrum of the tourist industry. At the same time, they form the basis for the development of new ideas, global approaches and targeted marketing.

ITB is the ideal forum for establishing new customer contacts and conducting business and guarantees high-quality customer contacts. It attracts high-ranking professionals with decision-making powers and shows a steady increase in the number of exhibitors and visitors.

The composition of ITB Exhibitors represents the entire service spectrum of the worldwide tourist industry.
