Flybe gives further boost to web service

Flybe has announced its
plans to introduce a web services programme which will provide a fully
automated search and e-commerce booking feed for Flybe flights. The service, which opens a live API feed direct to the travel agent’s
website, is freely available to anyone.

In what is a first in the aviation industry, Flybe has developed a
similar programme to that used by online giants such as Amazon and eBay,
further consolidating the airline’s online strengths and commitment to
providing the travel industry with a first class service and the best
available fares.

There are three new web services available:
*      Routes: a lightweight web service detailing Flybe’s available
routes
*      Flight Search: web service of Flybe’s fare availability as found
on www.flybe.com
*      Flight Booking: seat and baggage booking web service

The web services are provided using the industry-standard API format,
meaning anyone can simply plug the web service into their website, and
gain access to Flybe’s flight inventory currently available on
www.flybe.com. It will mean Flybe Partners can rely on future-proofed,
reliable and scalable technologies.

Stephen Hobday, Head of Sales at Flybe, said: “Flybe’s web services are
the new way of selling Flybe flights. Using the system we’re able to
offer access to our best published fares directly to agents’ systems.
Even better, this excellent service is completely free! We’re determined
to offer the best distribution to ease the booking process for our
Partners and expect web services to become one of the distribution
service of choice as more and more airlines following Flybe’s lead.”
