Curaçao gears up for dive festival

Curaçao is announcing the dates for its Second Annual Dive Festival, May 26 through June 2, 2007. Ranked among the Caribbean’s best islands for diving, called one of the top destinations for new divers, home to “Mushroom Forest” - one of the top dives in the world, and rated best in the Caribbean for shore diving, Curaçao is, or should be, on any diver’s wish list of places to visit.  After a successful Dive Festival in 2006, and in an effort to continue to share its underwater splendor with the world and invite visitors to come explore the depths of the island’s surrounding waters, Curaçao is preparing for its 2007 Dive Festival.

“As a new diver I could not have found a better event to attend than the First Annual Curaçao Dive Festival,” commented George Willis, a participant in the 2006 Dive Festival. “The speakers were great and to be able to actually meet and dive with them was unreal. I still can’t believe I got to dive with Marty Snyderman and the knowledge that Robert Myers shared during our dives together will remain with me for the rest of my life.”

Registration is free and visitors can enjoy a week full of guided dives, workshops, seminars and advanced dives, while nightfall brings happy hour gatherings with live entertainment, movies on the beach, BBQs and night dives.  Visitors are welcome to join the full week of activities, or just join in for two or three days, since it’s a free festival there is no monetary commitment that ties visitors in to a strict schedule.  Plus, local dive operators are offering special packages throughout the festival.

World famous experts will lead the Curaçao Dive Festival program with workshops throughout the festival.

á              Ty Sawyer, editor of Sport Diver Magazine, will lead Wild about Curaçao workshops, which will provide valuable insight on the island from the perspective of an expert traveler, journalist and photographer.

á              Jack and Sue Drafahl, a husband and wife team of professional undersea journalists, lecturers and multimedia producers, will lead workshops on Adobe Photoshop Editing Skills for Underwater Photographers.

á              Dietmar Fuchs, an underwater marine biologist and editor-in-chief of Germany’s largest dive magazine Unterwasser, will lead workshops on the Conservation and Wonders of our Underwater Marine Life.

á              Andreas “Andi” Voeltz, underwater photographer, filmmaker & director, and Marty Snyderman, a still photographer, film producer, author and speaker specializing in the marine environment, will lead workshops on Underwater Digital Photography.
