Continental first with Mississippi offering

Continental Airlines has announced it will begin first-ever daily nonstop service between Jackson, Mississippi and its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, beginning September 2007.“I’ve been pleased to work with Continental Airlines to secure what will be the first nonstop commercial flight between Mississippi and the New York Metropolitan Area,” Senator Trent Lott said. “This will give Mississippians a direct link to our nation’s business center and one of America’s top tourist destinations. It’ll also enable visitors and investors to better access Mississippi and see firsthand the many opportunities for growth our state now provides.”

“Continental appreciates Senator Lott highlighting Jackson’s interest in nonstop air service to New York and wanting to work with Continental to make such service a reality,” said Larry Kellner, Continental’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We thank Senator Lott, the MetroJackson Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority for their help in providing a direct link between the country’s financial and commercial center and Jackson’s growing business economy.”

The new Jackson-New York/Newark service complements Continental’s existing service between its hub at Houston and Mississippi. Continental provides six flights a day between Jackson and Houston and six flights a day between Gulfport/Biloxi and Houston.
