Austrian Airlines lands in Iraq

Austrian Airlines Group has landed according to schedule at the international airport of Erbil in Iraq, the first step in integrating this destination into its global route network.The Airbus A319 was received at Erbil Airport by high-ranking representatives of the region, who welcomed the connection of the city and the region with regular international aviation networks.

Austrian Chief Commercial Officer Dr. Josef E. Burger said the following about the new destination: ‘In Erbil, we are seeing a milestone in the development of the Austrian route network, as we once again emphasise our pioneering role and specialisation with our Focus East programme of services to Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Far East. With Erbil as a new destination, we are creating a crucial link for the economic reconstruction of the country and region, particularly for international traffic. The Austrian Airlines Group operates a scheduled route network that takes in 130 destinations in 66 countries.’
