US Airways pushes Delta merger plan

US Airways Group has commented on expected next steps for its proposed merger with Delta Air Lines.Doug Parker, US Airways’ Chairman and CEO said, “We at US Airways are fully committed to our proposal to merge with Delta. We are pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with Delta’s management and the Official Unsecured Creditors’ Committee over the past week. We believe that our discussions have shown that our proposed merger of US Airways and Delta can be achieved, and that if achieved will create a strong, healthy airline, able to compete long into the future in any industry scenario, benefiting our employees, customers, and the communities we serve, as well as providing Delta’s creditors with the opportunity to receive far greater recoveries than what they will receive under any Delta stand-alone plan.”

“We believe that the next steps, in order for Delta’s Board of Directors and the Creditors’ Committee to satisfy their respective fiduciary obligations to fully and fairly evaluate the potential benefits of our proposal, is to begin the due diligence process. Only then can they be in a position to truly assess this opportunity. I am confident that they will do so. We are absolutely determined to take necessary steps to move the process forward.”

“US Airways is the product of several successful mergers, most recently the combination of America West and US Airways. Working together, we have blended employees and cultures to create a new standard in the industry, which combines the best attributes of a low-fare carrier and a full-service airline. We fully expect the New Delta to exceed these already high-standards in the marketplace.”
