Falkland Islands launch new website

To coincide with the start of the 2006-07 tourist season, the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) has launched a new website www.visitorfalklands.com.

Tourists and professionals will find the site an excellent resource for planning a trip to the Falklands. Specialist sections include local accommodation, flight arrangements, local wildlife, tours and excursions, eating out, shopping, fishing, and an overview of the capital, Stanley.  Colour brochures covering these key areas can be downloaded in PDF format from the site, as can a five minute promotional film (the Falkland Islands…naturally) providing an excellent overview of the island to potential visitors.

More that 45,000 tourists visited the Falklands archipelago during the 2005-06 season to experience first-hand the breathtaking wildlife populations and vast scenery that the Falklands are fast becoming renowned for.  Cruise ship visitors on Antarctic cruises account for the majority of tourists who visit the Islands.  55,000 cruise ship visitors are anticipated for the 2006-07 season, an increase of almost 20% over the previous year.  The astonishing light and pollution-free environment of the islands are also attracting increasing numbers of wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, artists, and star gazers. The Islands are also catering to a growing number of couples seeking a unique destination for their wedding and honeymoon.

Councillor Ian Hansen, Chairman of the FITB, said: “Falkland Islands tourism is going from strength to strength and this new website is guaranteed to entice more people to visit our shores.  The spectacular photography on the site alone is enough to make you want to visit.”
