Terror alert costs BAA 20m

According to press reports the recent terror security alert in the UK cost airports operator BAA more than £20m.
Thousands of flights had to be cancelled after threats of a plot to blow up transatlantic flights. The security measures introduced after the plot emerged caused chaotic scenes at airports around the country.

Airlines suffered too with BA estimating its costs at £40mn, and Ryanair seeking compensation fronm the government.

BAA is expected to release details of their losses later this week.
