Hong Kong pioneers mobile tourist info

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has launched a tourist information
service, which will be available on visitors? mobile phones. The Hong Kong
Mobile Host service is the result of a partnership between local mobile
network operators and the HKTB. It is designed to provide leisure, business
and MICE visitors with an in-depth appreciation of Hong Kong?s multi-faceted
attractions via their mobile phones anytime, anywhere.

The idea for this service was born out of the HKTB?s own research, which
showed that 75% of overnight visitors used their mobiles whilst in the city.

The Hong Kong Mobile Host service enables users to access up-to-date,
tailor-made tourist information in a convenient and value-for-money manner.
Information includes on-the-spot commentaries on key attractions, hot
shopping offers, dining recommendations, major events, weather reports and
useful phone numbers, such as those of the HKTB and popular visitor sights.

The service is available as a three day pass, which costs HK$60 (just over
£4) and offers unlimited audio access to the service using a roaming
SIM-card without incurring additional charges or international roaming
rates. The Hong Kong Mobile Host service is available in English and
Cantonese, as well as by text (SMS). The service is also available in a
pay-as-you-go format.
