A380 to debut at World Travel Market

Visitors to World Travel Market in November will be able to see the new giant double-decker Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft. Singapore Airlines (SIA), attending the leading business to business event for the international industry for the first time, will take delivery of its aircraft in the same month as World Travel Market is held at ExCeL London.

More than 48,000 delegates are expected to gather at World Travel Market between Monday 6 -Thursday 9 November.

The carrier will use the aircraft on its first commercial flight in December on the Kangaroo route between London, Singapore and Sydney.

Fiona Jeffery, Managing Director of World Travel Market said she was pleased and proud that Singapore Airlines had chosen the event to unveil this flying miracle.

“While the travel industry knows that SIA will be the first carrier to fly the aircraft to London Heathrow, the on-board product has been shrouded in secrecy”, she said.

“What is known is that while the A380 can accommodate a staggering 555 seats in a standard three-class configuration, the SIA layout will feature fewer than 480 seats, ensuring, says the airline, ‘an air travel experience of the highest quality’.

SIA has hinted that the new cabin product in the premium cabins will be different from the SkySuites and Space Beds currently in service and it is assumed that the economy experience will be markedly different as well. All will be revealed at World Travel Market as details of the new product begin to emerge”, added Jeffery.

“We are delighted at the prospect of giving our trade partners in Europe a glimpse of our new product at World Travel Market, before the first A380 commercial flight arrives at Heathrow,” said SIA UK and Ireland general manager Marvin Tan.”

The A380 is a revolutionary airliner and we are excited to be offering a sneak preview of what our passengers can expect when they finally step inside the aircraft. “The larger cabin has provided us with ample opportunity for product innovation and we can assure the travel trade that Singapore Airlines continues to set benchmarks for the industry.”

Other milestones for the airline this year include the introduction of a new three-times-a-week service from Singapore to Milan and Barcelona from July 19, giving those Mediterranean cities their first air link with Singapore.
