It is a famous hometown for overseas Chinese with South Fujian dialect. The city is a cultural and academic center with a rich historical background dating back 1,700 years. Building architecture blending both modern and 19th century European flavor is another feature of the city. Xiamen has now become a well-known international ecological tourist city themed on “sea, close connection to Taiwan and overseas Chinese, culture and ecology.”
