China Southern-KLM expand codeshare

China Southern Airlines said it has expanded its code-share agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to include flights between Chengdu, the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan province, and Amsterdam.
The new service will provide the region with its first direct connection to Europe, China Southern said in a statement.

KLM will operate the twice weekly Boeing 777 service, while China Southern will have seats available for customers originating from Chengdu or connecting from its hub at Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou.

Over 13 mln people traveled through Chengdu’s Shuangliu International Airport in 2005, ranking it sixth among Chinese airports, the statement added.
