Cuba to buy five planes from Russia

Cuba will buy five planes from Russia under a contract signed on Monday by Ilyushin Finance and Cuba’s Aviaimport and the state-run company Cubana de Aviacion. According to Iyushin Finance, two long-haul Ilyushin-96-300 and two medium-haul Tupolev-204-100 passenger planes and one Tupolev-204S transport plane will be supplied to Cuba in 2006-2007.

The first shipment of Ilyushin-96-300 and Tupolev-204S is planned for this year.

The planes are sold under a governmental programme that envisages financial support to industrial exports. The government provides 500 million U.S. dollars in state guarantees for the programme.

The contract with Cuba will be covered by 325 million U.S. dollar guarantees.

Ilyushin Finance earlier supplied two Ilyushin-96-300 planes to Cubana de Aviacion, the Prime-Tass news agency reported.
