Pamper Pooch at Bailiffscourt Hotel

Bailiffscourt Hotel, on the Sussex Coast at Climping, is now welcoming dogs so that man’s best friend doesn’t miss out on breaks enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside. Bailiffscourt, a member of the Historic Sussex Hotels Group, offers 39 luxuriously furnished rooms, many with four poster beds and log fires, and is set in a 32 acre estate.  The hotel is ideally positioned for walks along Climping beach or the numerous marked footpaths across the surrounding fields, one of which runs from the hotel grounds (if owners forget their wellies the hotel can provide most sizes).

On return from a long day’s walking, owners can enjoy a range of treatments in the spa to sooth aching limbs and delicious food in the restaurant.  Not to be left out, furry friends can curl up on their own hotel dog mats by a roaring fire in their owners room and pick from a dedicated Bailiffscourt doggie room-service list including grooming essentials , toys, treats and food.

From the grooming list favourites include an edible toothbrush and ‘The Love Glove’, a professional grooming glove as good as any spa massage!  A best seller on the toys list is the ‘Free as a Bird’ fluffy duck so dogs can get in some practice for chasing the hotel’s peacock’s around the grounds!  And from the ‘A La Bone Menu’,  Pig Ears, meaty spirals and Pedigree Chum washed down with a chicken flavour vitality drink ensure a good nights sleep so it all can be enjoyed again in the morning!

Another Historic Sussex hotel to welcome dogs is the 15th century Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa in Midhurst, believed to be one of the oldest coaching inns in the country. From here walks around the ruins of Cowdray Park, the grounds of Petworth House and across the South Downs are easily accessible.  The hotel’s management is studying the success of the Bailiffscourt dog programme with an eye to introducing the expanded programme to the Spread Eagle.

A weekend break at Bailiffscourt costs from £275 per room per night including dinner, bed and breakfast.  Dogs are an additional £10 per night.  At the Spread Eagle a weekend break starts from £99 per room per night including breakfast with a dog supplement of £7.50.
