From 30 October 2005, SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will takeover from Singapore Airlines the operation of services between Singapore and Shenzhen, and between Singapore and Surabaya.
Frequencies between Singapore and Surabaya will more than double, as SilkAir plans to operate double-daily flights to the Indonesian city. Singapore Airlines presently flies six-times weekly to Surabaya.

SilkAir intends to launch a six-times weekly service between Singapore and Shenzhen, an increase over the existing four flights a week. For SilkAir, the Shenzhen service will add to its already extensive operations between Singapore and China, complementing its services to Xiamen, Fuzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and Kunming.

Surabaya will become SilkAir’s seventh destination in Indonesia, adding to the existing services to Medan, Palembang, Solo, Lombok, Manado and Balikpapan. Both routes will be served by SilkAir’s fleet of A319 and A320 aircraft.

Singapore Airlines will mount supplementary flights in the year-end to cater to the traditionally higher demand during this period. There are also plans to increase frequencies in 2006 to select cities in Asia, including Taipei and Guangzhou.
