Delta add Atlanta Cozumel route

Retreats to the Mexican Caribbean island of Cozumel are even easier for U.S. travellers now with the addition of Delta’s new Atlanta to Cozumel route. Beginning March 5, 2005, Delta will operate two flights a week to Cozumel out of Atlanta. Service to the destination will be provided on Saturdays and Sundays, year round, and accommodate up to 148 passengers each flight.

The new Cozumel flights respond to an increased interest in travel to the island. Cozumel experienced tremendous growths in visitors to its shores throughout 2004, boasting average monthly increases of 20 to 40 percent in air passenger traffic to the destination over 2003. Cozumel continues to see a rise in visitor numbers this year.

For January 2005 alone, the destination welcomed 62,219 air passengers, showing a 38.6 percent increase over the same period for 2004, according to Mexican airport operator, ASUR.

“We’re excited to see more travellers choosing Cozumel for their vacations and more airlines providing service to the destination, making it easier for people to join us on island.” said Javier Aranda Pedrero, Executive Director, Fideicomiso de Promoción Tur’stica de Cozumel (Cozumel Tourism Foundation).
